John Reese's Traffic Secrets Test - Day 1

Rather than the usual product review, I thought it would be more useful if I conducted a test to see how well Traffic Secrets techniques work in practice. Knowing John, I'm expecting positive results... he's a very smart marketer.

Will those results be worth the price you'll pay for his course? Let's find out together. Over the next several weeks, I'll be applying the Traffic Secrets lessons to the website of my new ebook with Joe Vitale,
The Ultimate Guide to Creating Moneymaking Ebooks. This is a brand-new website so there's no pre-existing traffic stream.

I'll be reporting results here but will only speak in very general terms regarding the actual techniques. I can't reveal all the tactics in his course. If I did, I'd probably be hearing from John's lawyers.

Be sure to bookmark this page and visit as often as you'd like. If you'd like to find out more about Traffic Secrets, there's a link in the left-hand menu. You're also welcome to check out the target site, CreateUltimateEbooks.com. There's a link in the left-hand menu.

I'm going to test allowing you to post your own comments and questions here. If it gets too crazy or if I get spam or nonsense posts, I'll turn that function off. If you look below my signature, you'll see a time stamp, the number of comments and a little pencil graphic. Click on "Comments" to add your own.

For those of you in the States, have a Happy Thanksgiving. I look forward to sharing this experiment with you.

All the best,

Comments:
Thanks Bill for this project. Since PPC isn't the only part of his course it is a little disappointing not to have the other components tested. But with these dismal results it sounds like your time and money might be well spent elsewhere.

One thing that I think was a little glossed over here is that this course is $1000. Now to you, Dr. Vitale and Mr. Reese this may not be a lot of money. But for the "average" person seeking this information on online success this is a VERY substantial amount of money.

And it is not difficult to find hundreds of other ways online to spend over five hundred bucks to make less than $80. They are everywhere and that is precisely the problem. People want value and don't mind paying for it. I'm sure glad my bank account is not a thousand dollars skinnier and unfortunately this will make me and any other thinking person leery of spending on this type of thing.

One of your conclusions is that this might work better elsewhere than the internet marketing field but like you also say the majority of Mr. Reese's targeted buyers would be in this field.

There are all kinds of products and services on the Internet for thirty or forty bucks promising similar miracles, so when a marketer spends a thousand it ought to be spectacular like having a hotline to Internet heaven.

Think of the tools and resources that could be purchased for this amount of money. Or advertising. Sounds to me like there weren't any secrets in Traffic Secrets but just a lot of sales copy.

Sorry if I'm cynical but that is why I followed your project in the first place, hoping that this really would be a valuable course. We will have no way of knowing if the other components of this program created traffic, but I noticed that not only did you not get sales but you never got increased traffic either. Hmmmm.

PPC is a BIG part of this course and it's where John suggests you start so I did. Although I only got one sale from the campaign, we did get traffic. Unfortunately, and this is my bad, we didn't have time to setup an autoresponder for this particular site. Had we done so, sales may have been higher and we'd have created a list.

As an aside, that's my biggest regret with this site. I've been too busy to create an autoresponder series for this site and it's cost me having a new list that would probably be up to 2,000 or so names by now given the amount of traffic on the site.

Is this course worth $1,000? That depends. One CD-ROM, the Outsourcing Secrets, contained info that would have saved me $1,700 if I owned this course when I was fairly new at this game. I know other newbies that could have realized even bigger savings.

I've also got quite a bit of PPC experience. This course is designed so someone with zero experience will be able to see, not just read or hear about, exactly how to setup their campaigns. For newbies, that has value as well.

Finally, I don't necessarily agree that the majority of the people buying this course are selling 'make money online' products. Those certainly aren't the types of products used as examples in the class. And newbies trying to teach other newbies how to make money online when they haven't made any themselves have bigger problems than getting traffic to their website.
