Ebook Winners, Video Review & More

I'm trying something different for this week's product review. Rather than write a traditional review, I recorded a review on video so you can see the software rather than just read about it.

If you like this format, let me know and I'll do more product reviews this way. Also, if you've written in to say you liked or disliked the current issue, that's great, I appreciate it. Video Article/Review: 100 Headlines in Less Than 10 Seconds

The Headline. It's the most important part of any website or sales letter.

How much difference can a headline make? Marketing expert Jay Abraham tells a story about an insurance company that tested two headlines:

  1. "Auto Insurance At Lower Rates If You Are a Careful Driver"

  2. "How To Turn Your Careful Driving Into Money"

Which do you think is the better headline... A or B?

The insurance company ran what's called a split-test. They took a mailing list and sent out two sales letters. The letters were identical except for the headlines. Half the list got the letter with headline A, the other half got headline B.

The response from the letter with headline A pulled 1200% better. That's right, 1200%! That's an extreme example but it's not uncommon to see one headline pull far better than another.

So if you're just using the first headline that comes to mind, you may be leaving a ton of money on the table. And if you've got a site that's not making any sales, the first thing you should look at is the headline.

Every good copywriter will tell you that you need to come up with dozens of headlines to find a winner. Many recommend writing a list of 100 headlines or more before picking out five or six to test.

Of course, sitting down to write 100 headlines sounds like a lot of work. I've done it before and can tell you it's not my favorite way to kill an afternoon.
